Known for his collaboration with Louis Sclavis and Aldo Romano on ‘Suite Africaine’, French double bass player Henri Texier is a true jazz icon. In the Handelsbeurs he will be playing with Hope Quartet, consisting of his son Sébastien Texier (alto sax), François Corneloup (baritone sax) and Louis Moutin (drums).

Solid compositions form the foundation of a driven and energetic interplay. Texier: “We try to explore new horizons within the jazz universe. My companions are inspired, creative, enthusiastic, earnest, virtuous and sensitive – all at the same time.”

Texier’s own musical career started back in the 1960s, alongside big names like Budd Powell, Dexter Gordon, Donald Byrd, Don Cherry and Johnny Griffin. He put himself on the map by releasing two solo records in 1970 and subsequently toured all over the world while setting up projects with the likes of Louis Scalvis, Michel Portal, Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler and Dewey Redman.

Sébastien Texier (alto sax, clarinet, alto clarinet) - François Corneloup (baritone sax) - Louis Moutin (drums) - Henri Texier (double bass)
