The Balkan Journey / Yeni Türkü
FOLK SONGS AND DANCE RHYTHMS FROM THE BALKANS
The accomplished Turkish accordion player Muammer Ketencoğlu likes to take musical journeys; from the Aegean Sea to Armenia. With his ensemble, The Balkan Journey, he plays both rural and urban folk songs, as well as exhilarating dance rhythms and wedding music from every corner of the vast Balkan region.
THE BALKAN JOURNEY
Ketencoğlu is one of the most prominent figures on the Balkan scene. Yet his story had a simple beginning: as an accordion player at a school for the blind in Izmir. In the meantime, he has been touring for almost forty years with The Balkan Journey, giving effervescent concerts and creating six award-winning albums along the way.

Even after more than three decades, Yeni Türkü is still one of the best-known Turkish bands. Their refreshing combinations of instruments and musical styles result in a broad spectrum of music, in which you hear both Turkey and the rest of the world.
NOSTALGIA WITH POETRY
After more than 15 records, Yeni Türkü is still exploring different timbres, in which the oud, baglama and guitar go hand in hand. With flamboyant Mediterranean melodies and poetic Turkish texts, they present an ode to both Anatolian and Byzantine culture.
