Sam Amidon: 'The Following Mountain'

Countryfolk with a twist

Sam Amidon usually takes a cut-and-paste approach to traditional American songs, but for The Following Mountain, his sixth album, he started from scratch.

He distilled nine numbers out of jam sessions where his country folk gets a seriously influential visit from jazz.

The folk singer enlists an elite, dynamic group of players for an album deconstructed from a master jam session, naturally creating his most jazz-forward release to date.
