Foyer Soiree: John Ghost

Off to a new record

John Ghost is an instrumental sextet based in Ghent. In their music we can hear influences from jazz, contemporary classical music as well as rock and electronica.

Above all, the group constantly seeks for new sounds and uses a cinematic language in their compositions while keeping the balance between moments of abstraction, repetition and sound exploration.

The band, founded by guitarist-composer Jo De Geest, started in 2010 and got selected for the prestigious competition of the Ghent Jazz festival. Over the years, more and more they developed a specific group sound and in 2013 they finished their first EP.

In 2014 they won the Muziekmozaiek contest at the Gentse Feesten and in february 2015 they got through to the final of the second Storm!-contest (Ostend). In april 2016 they released For A Year They Slept, their first full album, which received rave reviews in written and online media.

For A Year They Slept is een afwisselend bedwelmende, dromerige, groovende toevoeging aan een nieuwe golf van Belgische jazztalent, die duidelijk nog niet op droog zaad zit.
