Improvisation with elektronics and groove
Cram Ration, named after an Othin Spake composition - one of the many other projects
by jack of all trades Teun Verbruggen, is the electronics infused newborn baby of
Verbruggen and young foals Vitja Pauwels (Bombataz, Leap/Detach), and Cesar De
Sutter-Pinoy (Peenoise, Bardo). The latter both act here as guitar players, but don't read
into the phrasing. The music of Cram Ration combines a dozen of effects, intriguing
melodies, ravishing percussion and lots of improvisation. Another adventure which
displays Verbruggen’s everlasting quest for daring sounds and new ways of creating
music.
Describing Cram Ration’s music is a trade of its own. Sometimes noisy, sometimes
angular, but always with an eye for dialogue and interplay. Verbruggen’s drums form a
solid and thunderous backbone, the musical fantasies and excesses of Pauwels and De
Sutter-Pinoy act like miniatures or small paintings. Whimsical, haunting, but above all
ingenious. Once again, music bursting with imagination and innovation.
