Istanbul Expres: Burcu Karadağ Ensemble / Ilhan Erşahin ft. Hüsnü Senlendirici / Murat Ertel & Rodrigo Fuentealba Group
BURCU KARADAĞ ENSEMBLE
TURKISH CLASSICAL WITH A MODERN DAY TAKE
Burcu Karadağ has a gift. She plays the ney – a reed flute – and, whilst staying true to the essence of her instrument, manages to use it in a radically new way, as she also adds something to the mix, opening doors to new, contemporary soundscapes.
This has allowed her to reintroduce the Sufi instrument to a broad public that is also interested in the Rumi culture associated with it. She has described this revival as 'the most beautiful applause I can receive'. Karadağ has given concerts all over Europe and taken part in countless international projects. She promises to deliver a wonderful performance for Istanbul Ekspres.

ILHAN ERŞAHIN FEAT. HÜSNÜ SENLENDIRICI: WONDERLAND
JAZZ WITH ECHOES FROM ISTANBUL
In his ‘Wonderland’ project, cosmopolitan jazz saxophonist Ilhan Erşahin joins forces with the famous Roma clarinetist Hüsnü Senlendirici. These two maestros have been exploring together the sounds and smells of Istanbul ever since 2002.
Even though Erşahin grew up in Sweden, he still remembers perfectly the hot Turkish summers of his youth: 'In the 1970s, you could hear Turkish arabesques coming out of speakers, on the radio or in open air cinemas; it was the golden age of Turkish music and it still echoes in my ears. It’s precisely those golden days that we want to revive with Wonderland.' The band has released two albums. The sounds conjure up images of a sweltering summer when they play.

MURAT ERTEL & RODRIGO FUENTEALBA GROUP
ANATOLIAN ROCK IN SPECIAL FESTIVAL FORMATION
The frontmen of BaBa ZuLa and Manngold de Cobre have teamed up, backed by musician-friends from both their bands, Dans Dans and Zita Swoon. A musical formation put together for you with one single goal: to give Anatolian rock an energetic spin. Murat Ertel is already one of the heirs of the 1970s Turkish psychedelic scene. And Rodrigo Fuentealba is a big fan, judging by the amount of Turkish vinyls in his record collection. Their collaboration celebrates their passion.
Murat Ertel (saz), Özgür Çakırlar (percussion), Rodrigo Fuentealba (guitar), Bart Vervaeck (guitar), Fred Lyenn (bass), Karen Willems (drums)
